Traveling Tales
Swooping back to where we are…
Smoke the familiar air inviting
A signal, a pillar declaring you are alive.
Traveling Tales is a creative writing project and installation run by and for the Traveling Community. It was developed alongside Roadside, a play by Maddie Wakeling about the modern travelling community that sprung from free parties and festivals.
In creative writing workshops we explore themes of home and belonging, inspired by the objects that remind participants of their vans, caravans and wagons. The poetry created was then collaged to make a collaborative poem and transformed into these wall hangings.
The aim is to create a traveling exhibition.
So far the workshops have run at Trinity Centre Bristol and the work has been exhibited at Camden People’s Theatre and Trinity Centre Bristol. The work has been archived by the Southwest Heritage Trust as part of its resource on GRT History.
A young NT Musician has also created a soundtrack inspired by the artworks as part of the Roadside Music Mentorship.
Workshop facilitated by Maddie Wakeling, supported by ACE and Trinity Centre Bristol.
